2023 Tri for Jimmy registration is open!

Hello Tri for Jimmy athletes,

I hope to welcome many of you back for Tri for Jimmy as an athlete, a volunteer, a sponsor or a spectator and more. From your participation we were able to donate over $7,500 from our event in 2022, spectacular after the challenges of the COVID-19 pandemic,

Thank you all for reaching out to check on Tri for Jimmy with the exciting news of IRONMAN 70.3 Western Massachusetts, I am thrilled to announce our revised date(s) for a great tune up event and an informational triathlon clinic for first time 70.3 athletes as well as seasoned veterans.

Race Day Sunday June 4th, and the annual clinic will be on Saturday May 20th, with both events being hosted at DCR Hampton Ponds State Park. Registration is OPEN for 2023.

See TriforJimmy.com for course information and registration link for Clinic and Race Day.

Please support our sponsors who ensure we can have a quality event and make an impact with our donation to The Jimmy Fund.

Events, and amazing information from Dana-Farber Cancer Institute

The results have been submitted to USAT for posting in July, I was told it could take 6 - 8 weeks before it would be processed. I have reviewed the response and will follow up my request again as I have been alerted that they were not yet available.

Upcoming events - I never want Tri for Jimmy to be your last event, so I encourage continued participation, if not elsewhere, back at Tri for Jimmy 2023.

Coming up this weekend, August 7th is as busy day as it is PMC, another event that raises money for the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute

Good luck to all the athletes this weekend!

Greenfield Lightlife Triathlon for those who don't enjoy a swim

https://www.greenfield-triathlon.com/

Our course is designed to present athletes with a challenge, while offering scenic beauty with rolling hills, countryside farms and a historic covered bridge.

Wild Bill Swim for those who do.

https://wildbillswim.org/

Why: The Swim Challenge benefits continued environmental conservation of Quacumquasit Lake (aka South Pond) & Quaboag Lake (aka North Pond).

This inaugural "Wild Bill" Yorzyk Swim Challenge is in honor and remembrance of a local swimming legend and for fun, fitness and philanthropy.

Amazing information from Dana-Farber Cancer Institute - A bit about what they do with what we do to support their efforts

https://defycancer.dana-farber.org/events/community-fundraising/

Sponsors may submit checks through August 31st for 2022, and September 1 for 2023.

Thank you to the athletes, sponsors, donors, volunteers and more. Together we can make a difference. Thank you for being part of the cure, you don't have to be a doctor to fight cancer.

I was asked by a volunteer who was unable to attend due to health concerns, "Please raise a lot of money to end this evil disease. And please thank all participants for being part of the cure." This is why we have Tri for Jimmy, learn more here. I was inspired and hoped to one day make my mark with an event that gave something back to the participants in a unique way, with an individual yet collective experience versus a souvenir. I have been told I have give an experience that has changed lives, boosted confidence, unleashed inner athletes, inspired others and filled the gap the athletic community that I love had.

Race follow up

Tri for Jimmy friends, athletes, supporters and so much more! Thank you - I loved every minute of it.

Timing concerns/ USAT Points

I am aware of timing issues that are still being worked. I will not submit, until I have confirmed resolution of times with athletes and the timing company.

Water bottles, T-shirt and Medals - on YOUR honor.

If you did not receive your T-shirt or water bottle on race day. They are available first come first served, as I over purchased the quantity of shirt necessary on the cut off date, May 20, to try to have enough, but 44 athletes registered race week, and that was impossible to predict.

I have limited sizes of shirts available. I will not mail them. I will be working at New England Bike on Tuesdays (except July 5th) and Wednesdays 4:00PM- close (7:00PM), THIS Friday 7/1. 10:00 AM - 1:30PM, and Saturdays 9-5PM for the next 3 weeks. If you want to send a representative - drop me a line and tell them to ask for me, Lisa. I am committing to these times for your convenience, I am not putting the distribution of shirts or bottles onto my coworking team as they are and have been working more than hard enough for the past 2 plus years of the cycling boom.

If you did not receive a medal and placed in your age group, category or otherwise, you may visit me at New England Bike as listed above for pickup.

Upcoming events - I never want Tri for Jimmy to be your last event, so I encourage continued participation, if not elsewhere, back at Tri for Jimmy 2023.

August 7th is as busy day.

The people at packet pick up can't fix it. If you are aware make sure that you SEE ME on race day and I will consider if I can accomplish the necessary modification.

I am hopeful that you are all healthy and doing well, and looking forward to this weekend as much as I am!

The past few years have been full of adaptations, challenges, disappointments and so much has been put on hold, yet the one thing that hasn't stopped is cancer. I am excited to host Tri for Jimmy which raises money for The Jimmy Fund and Dana Farber Cancer Institute.

  1. The health and safety of      our athletes, volunteers and staff will continue to be of the highest      priority at Tri for Jimmy 2022. We will do our best to provide social      distancing and ask our athletes, spectators, volunteers and more to do the      same. Pre-Race      Meetings: Athletes are asked to observe social distancing      throughout the Pre-Race activities
  2. Registration      and Packet Pick-Up: There will be race day registration. We will be      selling one-day USAT memberships on race morning.
  3. Transition      Area: Bike racks will      be installed at the venue. The transition area will allow for limited      distancing between bikes.  I would like to try for no more than 6      bikes per rack. And bikes with kickstands can have a designated space.
    • Be sure       to keep socially distanced as much as possible.
    • There       will be on-site body marking. Race number is written on shoulder/arm       area, age on back of left calf, or R for relay team.

  1. Starting      Line:
    • Participants       will be assigned to waves. No, there will NOT be a time trial start.
    • When       lining up for the start, participants should self-seed: faster swimmers       at the front and slower swimmers in the back. Socially distance as much       as possible while waiting in line.

  1. Hydration: THERE WILL BE A WATER STATION ON THE      SPRINT RUN COURSE. Water jugs with pumps and Gatorade jugs will be at the      finish area. Paper cups will be available.
  2. Finish      Line: Upon crossing      the finish line we encourage you continue moving to avoid crowds at the      finish line.
  3. Post-Race      Refreshments:      We will be having our normal post-race food offerings, Donuts, Bagels,      Coffee, Pizza and Chocolate Milk. Please socially distance yourselves as      much as possible
  4. Spectators: We are welcoming spectators at our      events this year, please practice social distancing:
  5. Awards      and Post Race Parties: I plan to host these important post-race activities after      or while our final finisher are completing their events

Course Info/ Risk Mitigation Plan

  • Each athlete signs a waiver      and provides emergency contact information.
  • All athletes are directed      to call local authorities, via 911 if medical attention is needed.

  • Athletes are provided with      map information for the bike course and are advised that the roads are      open roads like race conditions and that they have to be aware of      vehicular traffic and yield to them. See Course Maps

This event has evolved over 13 years and has become a premiere beginner triathlon in Western Mass and Greater New England, we have athletes coming from New England, NY and NJ this year. Previous events drew over 200 competitors from all over the Northeast. Details can be found at www.triforjimmy.com or by calling the race director Lisa Totz (413) 244-2506.

The event is a charity fundraising event where all proceeds go to The Jimmy Fund. As in all previous years there are NO REFUNDS.

Tri for Jimmy error - Action required: USAT licensing

Hello Tri for Jimmy participant,

I admittedly made a mistake that impacts you.

I had not checked the box that prompted athletes for purchase of a required USAT licensing (Annual or One Day license) during registration.

All events are USAT Sanctioned and require a USAT license per athlete to participate, which can be purchased with your online registration. License fees: One Day $15, Youth Annual $10, and additionally available are Annual licenses $50.

Please [use the link provided above to] edit your registration, which will prompt you to select and purchase the required licensing. (if you will participate in 3 or more triathlons in the next 12 months it is suggested to purchase an annual license, you can upgrade your one day to an annual - at a later date, if you desire.)

Please review the Tri for Jimmy FAQs page.

My apology for the confusion this may cause. Please reach out if you have a question.

Lisa Totz, Race Director, Tater Racing, Tri for Jimmy

Please contact TriforJimmy@gmail.com, 413-244-2506 with any questions.

FROM THE FAQS:

WHY IS THERE A REQUIRED USAT 1-DAY LICENSE FEE AND WAIVER? WHAT IS IT FOR?

A USAT license and waiver assumes liability for event participants, and by sanctioning the race all participants are required to be licensed on a single-event permit or annual membership. Click this link, if you would like to learn more about USAT membership. If you think that you may do one more triathlon in a 12 month period from registration date then it may benefit you to apply for annual USAT membership.

USA Triathlon is the national governing body for the sports of triathlon, duathlon, aquabike, winter triathlon and aquathlon in the United States. Participation in a USAT sanctioned event means the event director has the proper permits in place, liability and athlete excess medical insurance coverage and the event plan has met the standard of organization required. USA Triathlon provides rules, guidance and governance to set the standard for safe and fair multi-sport races. For more information on USA Triathlon and fueling the multi-sport lifestyle, visit their website at http://www.usatriathlon.org.
