Hi Tri for Jimmy family,
Race day is behind us, and what a meaningful day it was.
Whether you swam, biked, ran, volunteered, cheered, photographed, or helped from the sidelines, you were part of what made Tri for Jimmy 2026 such a success. This event comes to life because our community shows up for one another, and that is something worth celebrating.
Race results are available here: https://my.raceresult.com/401623/results
We also saw a new overall course record of 53:39, beating the previous 2022 record of 55:42. That is an exciting milestone for the event and a great reflection of the strength and energy this year brought to the course.
This event would not be possible without the generosity of our sponsors. Their support helps create a safe, welcoming, and well-run race experience for every athlete and helps extend the impact of Tri for Jimmy in support of cancer research.
A sincere thank you to:
· Aqua Pump
· Millennium Press
· New England Bike

If you see our sponsors out in the community, please thank them for helping make this event possible.
From the first kayak in the water to the final pieces of cleanup, our volunteers were essential every step of the way. You supported registration, body marking, athlete guidance, swim operations, hydration stations, and countless behind-the-scenes details that kept the event moving safely and smoothly.
You truly lightened my load as race director, and I am deeply grateful.
A special thank you to Volunteer Coordinator Seth and to every volunteer who showed up, checked in, signed waivers, stayed flexible, and gave their time and energy to this event. Tri for Jimmy does not happen without you.
To the families, friends, and community members who lined the course, cheered at transitions, and supported athletes throughout the day, thank you. That encouragement matters more than you may realize.
Thank you as well to those who helped share and cover the event. Media coverage and community sharing help us grow awareness, strengthen participation, and continue building a hometown event with lasting impact.
This one is for you.
Whether this was your first race or your seventeenth, you did something significant. You showed up, took on the challenge, and crossed the finish line. That accomplishment is yours.
To our 38 first-timers, welcome. You belong here, and I hope this event is just the beginning.
To our 80 returning athletes, thank you for coming back and helping create the welcoming, encouraging atmosphere that defines Tri for Jimmy.
And to the athlete who has been with this event for all 17 years I have race directed — thank you for being part of the foundation of this race.
To those who chose to support this local event, I hope you will join us again and share your experience with others. Your participation helps inspire future athletes to take that first step.
Be Safe. Stay Calm. Have Fun. You lived it.

Bottom of Form
Hi Tri for Jimmy volunteers,
Thank you for signing up to help with Tri for Jimmy. Your willingness to be part of this event is not just appreciated — it is essential.
Volunteers are a fundamental piece of a safe, organized, and successful race day. Your presence helps protect athletes, increases awareness for the community, and allows participants to stay focused as they challenge themselves, race for a cause, and support cancer research.
The day starts early. At times, it may feel slow. At other moments, it will feel very busy. But throughout the morning, your role matters. Whether you are helping with check-in, directing athletes, supporting the swim area, setting up supplies, or simply being present where people need guidance, you are making a real impact.
This event could not happen without volunteers. You also lighten my load as race director in ways that are hard to fully explain, especially on race morning. Thank you.
Please plan to come early so we can make sure all the I’s are dotted and T’s are crossed before athletes arrive and the pace picks up.
When you arrive, please check in with Volunteer Coordinator Seth.
You will also need to sign a waiver for each day that you volunteer. This is important so that, in case anything happens, you are covered under the event umbrella.
There will be a lot happening at once as athletes arrive and begin preparing. You may see or help with:
If trash cans are not available where we need them, please ask a DCR staff person to help bring them over, along with bags.
Please take a few minutes to pay attention to the lay of the land when you arrive.
There will be signs with course maps at:
Knowing where things are will help you answer questions, guide athletes, and keep the morning moving smoothly.
Many athletes, especially first-timers, may be nervous. That is normal.
If you can answer a question, please do. If you are unsure, send the athlete to me. I am there to be a resource.
I will be making many announcements, especially for first-time athletes, to help them understand what is happening and what to expect. Some seasoned athletes may tune me out and talk among themselves, but those announcements are important for anyone who is new, unsure, or anxious.
If you see someone who looks nervous, please encourage them to listen closely to the announcements. You can also suggest they stand near me so they can hear clearly and so I can address any concerns they may have.
Sometimes a calm volunteer saying, “You’re in the right place — listen in and we’ll help you through it,” makes all the difference.
For common questions and preparation details, there is a FAQ page and a tentative race-day timeline available online at Tri for Jimmy’s website.
These resources can help you get familiar with the event and may also help you point athletes in the right direction if they have questions.
Tri for Jimmy is a hometown event built on community, challenge, support, and purpose. From beginner athletes to experienced racers, every participant benefits from the volunteers who show up, stay aware, and help create a safe and welcoming race environment.
Thank you for giving your time, energy, patience, and attention to this event.
I am grateful for you, and I am looking forward to seeing you on race day.
With appreciation,
Lisa Totz
Tri for Jimmy Race Director
Hi Tri for Jimmy athletes,
We are 5 days away from race day, and now is the time to make sure every detail is handled before the deadline.
Please read these reminders carefully so you are ready, eligible, and prepared when you arrive.
Online registration and all race-related changes close at midnight on Thursday, May 28, 2026.
If you still need to register, update your information, make a team change, or adjust anything connected to your race entry, please do it now.
After the deadline, changes may not be available.
Please locate your photo ID today and put it somewhere safe for race check-in.
No ID = no race. No exceptions.
This requirement helps us keep the event organized, safe, and fair for all participants. Do not wait until race morning to look for it.
Please monitor Tri for Jimmy social media for the latest water temperature information once we receive the official update.
Before Thursday at midnight:
We are excited to see you at the start line. Whether this is your first triathlon or one of many, you are part of a meaningful community event that challenges athletes, supports cancer research, and brings people together.
Take action now, get your details set, and be ready for race day.
See you soon,
Tri for Jimmy
We also want to extend a special thank you to the sponsors who help make Tri for Jimmy possible: Aqua Pump, Millennium Press, New England Bike, Fast Feet, Hood, Dunkin, Laurel Pure, Combustion Installations of New England, and WhyBuy.Rentals. Their support strengthens this event, helps us deliver a safe and welcoming race experience, and makes a meaningful impact in our community.
Only 10 days left until race day, and the weather forecast is looking spectacular!
Whether you are a seasoned athlete or a beginner ready to challenge yourself, this is your moment to join the movement.
Important: Registration officially closes in one week, Thursday, May 28th, at midnight.
If you are still on the fence, remember the core Tri for Jimmy philosophy we shared at our recent clinic. It is designed to help you succeed:
· Be Safe
· Stay Calm
· Have Fun
For everyone gearing up for the starting line, we have one golden rule to ensure a smooth, comfortable race: Do not try anything NEW on race day.
Stick to your proven routine. That means no new nutrition, untested clothing, different gear, or new activities. Trust the training you have already put in, and you will set yourself up for a fantastic finish.
Instead of wondering what you might be capable of, step up to the starting line. Achieve your personal best, feel the community spirit, and make a massive difference for cancer research.
Secure your spot before Thursday's midnight deadline at triforjimmy.com. If you can't participate but Tri for Jimmy has impacted you, consider volunteering—or encourage someone who needs a dose of inspiration to join our volunteer team and help keep our athletes safe. Which leg of the race are you most excited for?

Producing a safe, high-quality hometown triathlon requires a dedicated community effort. On Sunday, May 31, Tri for Jimmy 2026 will kick off with the first wave of swimmers starting at 8:00 AM. Volunteer opportunities span the entire weekend—including Friday for schwag bag and trailer packing (with dinner provided) and Saturday evening for transition area setup and course sweeping. We have a wide variety of critical shifts available: some start as early as 6:30 AM for parking mitigation, while many others run from 7:30 AM to 10:30 AM—leaving you plenty of time to enjoy a relaxing Sunday afternoon at the park or wherever you choose. After the event, all volunteers are encouraged to stay and celebrate with athletes and spectators at the post-race awards ceremony. You’ll find all shift details and sign-up options on our convenient SignupGenius form. If you know someone who would be interested in making a difference—whether volunteering or participating—please share this message and help us strengthen our team.
Volunteering with us means witnessing life-affirming and life-changing moments: experienced athletes pushing their limits, first-timers conquering new ground, and community members uniting to make a powerful impact. If you’re looking for inspiration or a meaningful way to give back, join our growing team of volunteers. We hope to welcome an even greater group this year. You can sign up to volunteer directly from our homepage at triforjimmy.com. If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to contact the race director.
Unmonitored traffic presents a serious risk to our competitors. During the 2025 race, participant David R experienced this severe reality when a vehicle cut him off. He struck the car at full speed, suffering a terrible crash that resulted in severe bone bruising and an ankle sprain. Despite dealing with ongoing pain, David is courageously returning to race this year. He generously asked us to share his experience to highlight the critical need for comprehensive course safety.
We want to ensure an incident like this never happens again. For 2026, our goal is to have every intersection covered by attentive volunteers. Your role is more than just guiding traffic—you actively alert athletes to traffic concerns, helping them stay aware and avoid potential danger. Just as important, your physical presence on the course serves as a visible reminder to motorists to slow down and pay extra attention, reinforcing safety beyond signage and limited police coverage. By stepping up, you’re a key part of protecting every participant’s well-being, giving athletes like David the confidence to pursue their goals and focus on what matters—achieving their personal best and raising crucial funds for the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute.
You do not need any prior experience to fill this role. We provide all the necessary guidance and safety equipment. By dedicating just a few hours of your time, you deliver a massive, life-saving impact for hundreds of hometown athletes.
Join the movement and help us build a secure, supportive environment for everyone.
With immense gratitude,
The Tri for Jimmy Organizing Team
Stepping up to the starting line of a triathlon can feel intimidating, but a clear plan changes everything.
This is a quick reminder to join us tomorrow for the Tri for Jimmy pre-race clinic. We designed this hands-on session to solve the common challenges athletes face when preparing for a race. Instead of guessing how to navigate the course or set up your gear, you will learn exactly what to expect from industry veterans.
During the clinic, our experienced coaches will help you:
Whether you are a beginner looking for a supportive environment or a returning athlete refining your strategy, you have a place in our community. Every step you take helps us fund vital cancer research at the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute.

Athlete update and message
Many of you expressed concern and support for our injured athlete that was taken to the hospital. He allowed me to share the following…
“You definitely can let them know I’m OK, but tell them it’s more than bruises definitely scrapes and whiplash in my neck and shoulder.
Car pulled out in front of me from the side road while I was on County Road. I was waving and yelling at them, but they didn’t see me. I hit their front and went flying heels overhead over their bumper and I guess landed on the back of my head and shoulder.
Please thank the emt athlete from Summit tri- team for being my first responder for evaluation after an incident on course.”
Photo Gallery shared with me – JB Studios Photography – Thanks Josue! Sorry this rabbit hole delayed my email… Many awesome shots in there!!!
Feedback and preparatory participation welcome
If you cannot tell I love this event and I want everyone to love it and come back year after year to further the cause and benefit the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute and The Jimmy Fund with unrestricted funds.
I welcome your feedback! But most of all, I welcome your participation on joining my team to help me continue this event. For many years it has been a very small core group who work like dogs’ race weekend. I would like to support them and myself with more assistance. If you are interested in being a part of 2026 Tri for Jimmy as an administrative support, promoter, volunteer, participant and more, I would love to hear from you. triforjimmy@gmail.com.

Intimidated by participating in large and daunting triathlons? Look no further than Tri for Jimmy. Hosted by Tater Racing, this intimate and community-driven event offers a perfect alternative to the larger Western Massachusetts Ironman.
Tater Racing is excited to remind all about the upcoming 14th Annual Tri for Jimmy Sprint Triathlon on June 4th, 2023, in support of the Jimmy Fund and the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute. The event will once again take place in Westfield, at DCR Hampton Ponds State Park as a phenomenal introduction to triathlon, or as a tune-up event to prepare for the upcoming Western Massachusetts Ironman which has been potentially motivating others to try a tri.
Tri for Jimmy offers the perfect opportunity for first-time triathletes and experienced athletes to participate in a just-right-sized event that showcases the sport, camaraderie, and growing outside of your comfort zone.
It is more than just a triathlon; it's an opportunity to tap into your endurance, determination, and commitment to excellence. The Tri for Jimmy sprint triathlon is a unique event that promotes endurance sports while contributing to a noble cause. Participants of all skill levels are encouraged to attend and take part in this exciting challenge.
To assist beginner triathletes in overcoming any fears they may have about competing in the race, Tater Racing is hosting an educational clinic on Saturday, May 20th, with 15 days left before race day offers a great opportunity for beginner triathletes to fine-tune their skills and prepare for the race. Led by an experienced athlete, the clinic will focus on essential techniques, including transitions from one event to another, nutrition tips, and injury prevention. Moreover, the clinic will offer a safe, welcoming, and supportive environment for attendees to ask questions and receive expert advice from professional triathletes.
"The Tri for Jimmy sprint triathlon is more than just a race; it's a chance for us to come together as a community and make a difference, is the perfect alternative to larger triathlons," said Lisa Totz, founder of Tater Racing. "We're thrilled to host the educational clinic and support beginner triathletes in their journey toward becoming confident and successful racers. The results have been submitted to USAT for posting in July, I was told it could take 6 - 8 weeks before it would be processed. I have reviewed the response and will follow up my request again as I have been alerted that they were not yet available.
Upcoming events - I never want Tri for Jimmy to be your last event, so I encourage continued participation, if not elsewhere, back at Tri for Jimmy 2023.
Coming up this weekend, August 7th is as busy day as it is PMC, another event that raises money for the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute
Good luck to all the athletes this weekend!

Amazing information from Dana-Farber Cancer Institute - A bit about what they do with what we do to support their efforts
https://defycancer.dana-farber.org/events/community-fundraising/
Sponsors may submit checks through August 31st for 2022, and September 1 for 2023.
Thank you to the athletes, sponsors, donors, volunteers and more. Together we can make a difference. Thank you for being part of the cure, you don't have to be a doctor to fight cancer.
I was asked by a volunteer who was unable to attend due to health concerns, "Please raise a lot of money to end this evil disease. And please thank all participants for being part of the cure." This is why we have Tri for Jimmy, learn more here. I was inspired and hoped to one day make my mark with an event that gave something back to the participants in a unique way, with an individual yet collective experience versus a souvenir. I have been told I have give an experience that has changed lives, boosted confidence, unleashed inner athletes, inspired others and filled the gap the athletic community that I love had.

Tri for Jimmy friends, athletes, supporters and so much more! Thank you - I loved every minute of it.
Timing concerns/ USAT Points
I am aware of timing issues that are still being worked. I will not submit, until I have confirmed resolution of times with athletes and the timing company.
Water bottles, T-shirt and Medals - on YOUR honor.
If you did not receive your T-shirt or water bottle on race day. They are available first come first served, as I over purchased the quantity of shirt necessary on the cut off date, May 20, to try to have enough, but 44 athletes registered race week, and that was impossible to predict.
I have limited sizes of shirts available. I will not mail them. I will be working at New England Bike on Tuesdays (except July 5th) and Wednesdays 4:00PM- close (7:00PM), THIS Friday 7/1. 10:00 AM - 1:30PM, and Saturdays 9-5PM for the next 3 weeks. If you want to send a representative - drop me a line and tell them to ask for me, Lisa. I am committing to these times for your convenience, I am not putting the distribution of shirts or bottles onto my coworking team as they are and have been working more than hard enough for the past 2 plus years of the cycling boom.
If you did not receive a medal and placed in your age group, category or otherwise, you may visit me at New England Bike as listed above for pickup.
Upcoming events - I never want Tri for Jimmy to be your last event, so I encourage continued participation, if not elsewhere, back at Tri for Jimmy 2023.

In 2009, a beginner triathlon was founded to introduce the sport to those who were curious to learn and try a challenge that they didn’t know they could achieve. This event has evolved over 13 years and has become a premiere beginner triathlon in Western Mass and Greater New England, we have athletes coming from New England, NY and NJ this year. Previous events drew over 200 competitors from all over the Northeast. Details can be found at www.triforjimmy.com or by calling the race director Lisa Totz (413) 244-2506.
The event is a charity fundraising event where all proceeds go to The Jimmy Fund. As in all previous years there are NO REFUNDS.

Hello Tri for Jimmy participant,
I admittedly made a mistake that impacts you.
I had not checked the box that prompted athletes for purchase of a required USAT licensing (Annual or One Day license) during registration.
All events are USAT Sanctioned and require a USAT license per athlete to participate, which can be purchased with your online registration. License fees: One Day $15, Youth Annual $10, and additionally available are Annual licenses $50.
Please [use the link provided above to] edit your registration, which will prompt you to select and purchase the required licensing. (if you will participate in 3 or more triathlons in the next 12 months it is suggested to purchase an annual license, you can upgrade your one day to an annual - at a later date, if you desire.)
Please review the Tri for Jimmy FAQs page.
My apology for the confusion this may cause. Please reach out if you have a question.
Lisa Totz, Race Director, Tater Racing, Tri for Jimmy
Please contact TriforJimmy@gmail.com, 413-244-2506 with any questions.
FROM THE FAQS:
WHY IS THERE A REQUIRED USAT 1-DAY LICENSE FEE AND WAIVER? WHAT IS IT FOR?
A USAT license and waiver assumes liability for event participants, and by sanctioning the race all participants are required to be licensed on a single-event permit or annual membership. Click this link, if you would like to learn more about USAT membership. If you think that you may do one more triathlon in a 12 month period from registration date then it may benefit you to apply for annual USAT membership.
USA Triathlon is the national governing body for the sports of triathlon, duathlon, aquabike, winter triathlon and aquathlon in the United States. Participation in a USAT sanctioned event means the event director has the proper permits in place, liability and athlete excess medical insurance coverage and the event plan has met the standard of organization required. USA Triathlon provides rules, guidance and governance to set the standard for safe and fair multi-sport races. For more information on USA Triathlon and fueling the multi-sport lifestyle, visit their website at http://www.usatriathlon.org.
